Awww Whistler... Nature's playground located in the beautiful British Columbia, Canada. This hub for adventure whether covered in lush snow or all shades of green lies just 77 miles (124km for those of you on the metric system) from the iconic and bustling city of Vancouver B.C. It's a quick jaunt over the boarder from Washington State, with nothing to disappoint upon arrival! Whistler is where Maggie and I have bonded the most over our need for the great outdoors from skiing the endless slopes at Whistler/Blackcomb (yes that is TWO fully stocked mountain peaks) to hiking, mountain biking, ATVing, swimming, or exploring the nightlife with friends in the Whistler Village. This place has it all, never without stunning views and friendly faces from visitors, locals, and may I add, eye candy thanks to tons of foreigners on work visas.
There's no snow on those slopes behind us, but Maggie and I are not complaining after Mountain biking to the crystal water of Lost Lake, just 2.8 km from the village on this beautiful sunny day.
In the winter, there's no better place to hit the slopes with friends and family! Whistler consists of two mountain peaks to explore, Whistler and Blackcomb, connected with the peak to peak gondola, worth the ride even if it's just for the views! There's endless terrain for all levels, epic viewpoints, and my personal favorite, ending the day skiing from the top of Whistler Bowl all the way to the bottom, breaking hard at the base of the mountain in front of Longhorns. You might as well sit on down with a view of the slopes and have a meal and refreshing beverage of choice!
In the off-season, if you can even call it that, everyone is soaking up those sunny rays! Whistler/Blackcomb turns into an epic Mountain Biking amusement park, sponsoring one of the top competitions, Red Bull's Crankworx, usually falling at the end of August. There's nothing better than getting dirty on those deep turns and kickers, then relaxing on the chair lift before your next run! If mountain biking isn't your thing, no problem! You cannot be bored with unlimited hiking, lake side activities, ATVing, village exploring, and seriously, people watching! I swear some of the most attractive and athletic people congregate around Whistler in the summer time! I'm not complaining...
View from the top of the last jump at Red Bull's Crankworx. Epic!
Maggie and I have had amazing experiences in the adventurous Disney Land that is Whistler. Winter ski trips whether for College Weekend, where you can find pretty much all of the University of Washington up in the Village, locals beware!, riding with the Husky Snowboarding team, or Maggie squatting in the upper village for months on end cannot be beat! We have been lucky to be able to take our friends for girls trips, music festivals, and even a bachelorette party (Team Claire and Landon forever!). I am stoked beyond belief to spend a large part of winter reunited with my migrating mate in our paradise!
This one's for the girls! XOXO
