evo is the best!
Founded by former pro skier and Oregon native, Bryce Phillips, evo, in my opinion, is the best action sports and fashion apparel shop around with strong roots in the Pacific Northwest. Starting as an online shop out of Bryce's Seattle garage, evo has made a large online presence in the past 12 years, as well as currently operating a successful shop in the Fremont neighborhood of Seattle. Do you really need another reason to love evo? They have also been keeping dreams alive by hosting events, supporting local talent, and benefiting local and national non-profits!
Needless to say, I was thrilled when they announced the second store to be in Portland, OR, close to my hometown!
evo thrives on that true Pacific Northwest vibe, and with Bryce growing up in Oregon, it made complete sense to have the second location in Portland.
THE PRE-OPENING~ October 30th
The new store really proved itself to be an up and coming hub for action sports in Portland. I attended the pre-opening in October and fell in love with the location, right off of MLK boulevard in the historic former Salvation Army headquarters. The building has character by itself, but the work the evo team put in to give it new life is undeniably fantastic! The store breaths new life as you enter through the "new gear hall" and surf gear, past an art piece that if you look close, you'll see images of everything from Bryce in the original evo garage to his family. In the open lower level there's men's and women's apparel (even kids!), the art gallery/skate shop, and my personal favorite, the creative entrance to Uncle Jack's full service tune shop in the basement! Upstairs you've got all the adventure gear including ski, snowboard, and bike!
Check out more photos of the renovation at the evo Portland Facebook page.
THE GRAND OPENING~ November 15th
The sold out grand opening event far exceeded my expectations (with all ticket proceeds going towards The Chill Foundation)! The gear was packed up and put in storage, and the shop was transformed into the perfect mix of bar, club, and hang out space for all the local adventure enthusiasts! The opening included free swag and drink to be had by all, signings and hang out time with athletes from the evo collective including Eric Pollard (his art work was also featured in the gallery space...so rad!) • Chris Benchetler • Wiley Miller • Shaun McKay • Austin Smith • Brandon Cocard • Kimmy Fasani • Andy Mahre • Collin Collins • Tim McChesney • Mike Hornbeck, and music by GZA from the Wu-Tang Clan! If you didn't leave too early, you may have also caught a glimpse of Olympic bronze medalist, Nick Goepper, who was in town for the Portland ski expo!

The event was for sure a success, and it was fantastic to congratulate Bryce Phillips in person on all his accomplishments. I had the best night with friends, celebrating a brand, location, and community I love in true evo and Pacific Northwest style! Way to go Bryce and the evo team!
